Biography
French author, historian and politician. He was elected to the Académie française on 15 February 1979.
He was married in 1957 with Madeleine Parisy, then remarried in 1983, with Micheline Pelletier, journalist and photographer, a relative of the French-American journalist Anne Sinclair. He has two daughters and a son.
He died on 27 March 2016, at age 90.
