Michiel de Ruyter (painted by Ferdinand Bol in 1667)

Dutch admiral, the most famous and one of the most skilled in Dutch history. De Ruyter is most famous for his role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 17th century. He fought the English and French and scored several major victories against them, the best known probably being the Raid on the Medway. The pious De Ruyter was very much loved by his sailors and soldiers; from them his most significant nickname derived: Bestevaêr (older Dutch for 'grandfather'.) He died on 29 April 1676 during the Battle of Augusta, when he was fatally wounded when a cannonball hit him in the left leg.

Sy Scholfield quotes "Rechterhand van Nederland: biografie van Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter" by Ronald Boudewijn Prud'homme van Reine and ‎Peter Prud'homme (De Arbeiderspers, 2007), p. 19: "Uit dit huwelijk kwamen maar liefst elf kinderen voort, zes dochters en vijf zoons: Lu- cretia (19 maart 1602), Michiel (16 april 1604), Neeltje (12 maart 1606), Michiel (24 maart 1607), . . . Michiel werd 's ochtends om acht uur geboren en nog diezelfde dag gedoopt in de Nederduits Hervormde Kerk van Vlissingen, de Grote of St. Jacobskerk."

[Translation: From this marriage came forth, eleven children six daughters and five sons: Lu-Cretia (March 19, 1602), Michael (April 16, 1604), Neeltje (March 12, 1606), Michael (24 March 1607), ... Michael was born in the morning at eight o'clock and baptized the same day in the Dutch Reformed Church of Flushing, the St. James Church.]

Svi Same 8 AM time and date given by Koppejan in Dierenriem. Koppejan mentions as original source the biography of Geeraardt Brandt de jonge : Leven en bedryf van den heere Michiel de Ruiter from 1687: "Hier werdt de Ruiter den vierentwintigsten van Maart, 's morgens ten acht uuren, in den jaare mdcvii gebooren" (page 6). There is no mention of a time in the family bible, and the biography was written 80 years later so the Rodden rating AA should go back to B.
