Biography

French maritime engineer, known for his service to shipbuilding in Lorient, and as the first engineer to introduce steel in the construction of ship hulls. This improved the shape of the cuirasses through the use of nickel steel for protection of the structure. His main work is the cruiser-battleship Dupuy-de-Lome, considered the most remarkable unit of war fleets in the whole world. He died on 24 April 1903, aged 81, in Paris.
