René Cresté (in "Judex," 1916)

Biography

French stage and film actor and director of the silent film era. Cresté is possibly best recalled as Judex, the title character in the Louis Feuillade-directed crime-adventure serial Judex, which ran in twelve installments in theatres from 1917 until 1918.

Following the success of Judex, Cresté appeared in the 1918 serial Tih Minh, directed by Feuillade, then founded his own film production company, Films-René-Cresté, for which he produced and directed several ultimately unsuccessful films.

René Cresté died in Paris on 30 November 1922, aged 40, of tuberculosis.
