Jim Corsi

Biography

American baseball player, a right-handed pitcher who played ten seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics (1988–1989, 1992, 1995–1996), Houston Astros (1991), Florida Marlins (1993), Boston Red Sox (1997–1999) and Baltimore Orioles (1999).

Corsi was originally signed by the New York Yankees on 7 June 1982 after being selected in the 25th round of the free-agent draft. A mediocre player at the very best, his career was one of constant injury. In his five years with the Yankees, Corsi didn't play in a major-league game once. Instead, he played with various New York-affiliated minor league teams in order to recuperate from injuries; he didn't play any form of baseball in 1984.

In the twelve years from 1987 to 1999, he played for the Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles, as well as many of their minor league affiliates. Injuries were also a problem during this time in his career, keeping him from realizing his true potential. The lowest point in his career came in 1990 when no major league team would sign him, forcing him to sign solely with a minor league team in Washington.

Corsi married and divorced and had four children. He died from cancer of the liver and colon on the morning of 4 January 2022 at his home in Bellingham, Massachusetts. He was 60.
