Mexican prominent physician cardiologist and rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico from 1961 to 1966. He is considered the father of cardiology in Mexico, he founded the National Institute of Cardiology which now bears his name. As rector of the UNAM, eliminated the automatic pass and applied the first test screening all applicants regardless of whether they were high school graduates or not the university. He had to resign as president because of a strike originated in the faculty of law and its place was taken in May 1966 on the Ing.Javier Barros Sierra.

He died in Mexico City on 13 July 1979.
