French mountain climber, well known for his adventurous exploits. He was attacking his 20th summit, the immense Kangchenjunga in the Himalayas, on 6 October 1995 when he disappeared along with his companion, photographer Pierre Royer and their Sherpa Riku. A week later some pieces of his equipment were found; the radio still in working order.

Chamoux was married on 18 June 1994.
