French doctor and medical biographer, awarded the prix Civrieux in 1848 by the Academy of Medicine for his thesis on suicide.

Among his numerous writings are Essais sur les origines du journalisme médical français, La Vérité sur la mort de J.-J. Rousseau, Guillotin et la guillotine, Louise Bourgeois, dite Boursier, sage-femme de la reine Marie de Médicis, and a large number of biographies of noted doctors in Dictionnaire encyclopédique des sciences médicales, le Parnasse médical français (1874).

He died on 17 January 1885 in Paris, aged 67.
