Biography

Chilean composer, educator, communist militant and director of Chilean orchestra. Armando was founder and first conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Chile, key in the development of Chilean music from the 20s Spouse of Blanca Hauser, recognized Chilean soprano, one of the great figures of opera from the 30s and 50. He led the Orchestra of the Municipal marriage of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (the December 3, 1927). In 1928 he took an active membership in the group of musicians who promoted the reform of the National Conservatory, after which he was appointed director of the academy that year, extending this activity until 1943. He was also dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts the University of Chile (1931-1932). He died in Santiago on September 1972 at age 79.
