American character actress known for her performance as the older version of Geena Davis' character, Dottie Hinson, in the 1992 film A League of Their Own. Cartwright was chosen for the role not just because she closely resembled Davis, but also because many of her mannerisms were similar. Cartwright's acting career spanned from 1957 to 1992 and included smaller roles in various films along with work on stage.
She was the daughter of U.S. Congressman Wilburn Cartwright and his wife Carrie (née Staggs). Lynn Cartwright was married to actor/writer Leo Gordon from 14 February 1950 until his death on 26 December 2000. She had a daughter, Tara, and a stepdaughter.
Lynn Cartwright died from complications of dementia on 2 January 2004, aged 76, after having suffered a fall in which she fractured her hip.
- compare to chart of Davis, Geena (born 21 January 1956)
Sy Scholfield quotes two news reports from News-Capital and Democrat (McAlester, Oklahoma), Thursday, 3 March 1927, page 8, "the stork visited the Cartwright's early last Sunday morning," and page 5, "arrival of a lovely little daughter, Saturday Feb. 26th at Albert Pike Hospital." The latter report is apparently erroneous as the U.S., Social Security Death Index gives her date of birth as 27 Feb (married name: Doralyn E. Gordon). A time of 12:30 AM "early" on the 27th is speculative.
