King of Sweden Carl IX (by an unknown artist)


King of Sweden from 22 March 1604 until his death on 30 October 1611. He was the youngest son of King Gustav I of Sweden and his second wife, Margaret Leijonhufvud.

Sy Scholfield quotes "Anekdoter och karaktersdrag ur svenska regenternes lefnad ifrån Gustaf I t.o.m. Carl XIV Johan" by Carl Adolph Levisson (P.G. Berg, 1844), p. 94: "Han föddes den 4 Oktober 1550, emellan kl. 1 och 2 om natten och dog, nära 61 år gammal, den 30 Oktober 1611 vid middagstiden, kl. emellan 11 och 12."

Translation: He was born on 4 October 1550 between 1 and 2 in the night and died, 61 years old, on 30 October 1611 between 11 and 12 noon.
