Biography
German-American entrepreneur and executive at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis, MO. After completing his education in Germany and trying various jobs, he moved to the U.S. in 1857. Two years later, with his brother, he opened a brewery supply store. In 1861, Busch's brother married one of the Anheuser daughters and Adolphus became a partner in the Anheuser Brewery. He took over as President when the old man died, pioneering new methods, such as the pasteurization of beer, which made long-distance shipping possible. He also pioneered lighter beers. As his wealth increased, he became a liberal philanthropist.
Died on 10/10/1913, St. Louis, MO.
