After attending Ohio State, Burba was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round draft pick 6/02/1987. He was then traded to the San Francisco Giants, 12/11/1991, playing with them until 7/21/1995 when he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. Due to an injury, he was placed on the disabled list for a short time period in August 1997.
