Biography
American politician, the President of the United States from 1857-1861. A lawyer and soldier, he became known and honored as a statesman of ability and experience, he also served as a diplomat to Great Britain and Russia, and as Secretary of State. Buchanan died of rheumatic gout on 1 June 1868, Wheatland, PA.
