Sy Scholfield quotes "Focus on Infinity: A Life of Phillips Brooks" by Raymond Wolf Albright (Macmillan, 1961), p. 3: "At the close of the year 1835 Boston was a thriving city . . . When the mayor and aldermen met on Monday, December 14 . . . they little realized that just the day before a son, destined to become one of the city's most distinguished citizens, had been born at 1:15 A. M. at 56 High Street to William Gray Brooks and his wife Mary Ann (Phillips)."
