Biography

American writer, the author of more than 20 books and poet laureate of Illinois from 1969. Brooks was a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1949 and in 1989, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Endowment for the arts. Diagnosed with cancer just the week before, Brooks died on 12/03/2000, Chicago, IL at age 83..
