Robert Boyle


Irish physicist, chemist, inventor and author. In 1662 he postulated his famous Boyle's Law which stated that the volume of a gas and its pressure are inversely proportional to each other.

Died on 30 December 1691 OS, London.

On 14 June 2017 the rating was changed to A, with Sy Scholfield citing father's journal quoted in The Lismore papers, Autobiographical notes, remembrances and diaries of Sir Richard Boyle, first and 'great' Earl of Cork, Vol 2, edited by Alexander B. Grosart (Brooklyn House, Blackburn, Lancs., 1856), p. 112: "My seaventh son Robert Boyle was born at Lismoor on Thursdaie, about three of the clock in thafternoon, yt being the fHve and twentieth day of January. 1626 and the signe then in libra."
