Anatole Bouquet de La Grye


French hydrographic engineer known for his work in creating the autonomous port of La Pallice in La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime, which was inaugurated on 19 August 1890, and ranked 8th busiest French commercial port in 2007.

He began his career with a survey of the coasts of Elba, Tuscany and the Loire-Atlantique. He travelled to New Caledonia for coastal surveys and produced 14 detailed maps. In 1861 he left for Alexandria, Egypt, to make the levies of the city.

He died on 22 December 1909, aged 82.
