Biography

Australian actress and voice actress, known for her portrayals of Aeryn Sun in the science fiction series Farscape (1999-2003) and Vala Mal Doran in the science fiction series Stargate SG-1 (2004-2007), as well as Sharon "Shazza" Montgomery in the 2000 film Pitch Black. She has also had several prominent roles in video games, such as Chloe Frazer in the Uncharted series, the witch Morrigan in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Inquisition, and squadmate Samantha Byrne in Gears of War 3, Gears of War 4, and Gears of War 5. She also had a recurring role as Dahlia in The Originals (2015) and starred as Dr. Sabine Lommers in The CW's Containment (2016).

Black was born and raised in a Jewish family in Sydney. She has lived in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Her parents are Australian medical academics Jules and Judy Black. She was married to Jamie Thurkettle from 2004 to 2016 and she has two children.

Sy Scholfield quotes her birth notice (no time given): "BLACK (nee Henry). - October 11, at Women's Hospital (Crown Street), to Judy, wife of Jules - a daughter (Claudia Lee). A sister to Georgina." (Sydney Morning Herald, 12 October 1972, p. 30). The birth notice appeared in this newspaper the day after her birth indicating that she was born in the morning hours. Scholfield later quoted her on Twitter, "Libra sun, cancer rising, Scorpio moon" [1], and indeed a speculative birth time of 1 AM gives this combination.
