Biography
Canadian broadcaster, journalist, and politician best remembered for her work as chair of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women. She was a member of the Senate of Canada from 23 March 1978 until 15 January 1983.
In 1971, she was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada. In 1983, she was named a recipient of the Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
In 1928 she married journalist John Bird. They moved to Canada in 1931. She died on 18 July 1998, aged 90.
