Rose Bertin (by Jean-Francois Janinet, c. 1780)


French milliner and dressmaker to Queen Marie Antoinette. She was the first celebrated French fashion designer and is widely credited with having brought fashion and haute couture to the forefront of popular culture. She died on September 22, 1813 in Épinay-sur-Seine.
