Biography
French actor, film director and screenwriter, who has appeared in more than 100 films since 1972. He starred in The Violin Player, which was entered into the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.
Born into a Jewish family, his surname Berry was originally Benguigui, and his first name was inspired by the British actor Richard Greene. His father was a hairdresser in Oran, Algeria, before moving to Paris. Richard Berry has a sister, Marie, born in 1952, to whom he gave one of his kidneys in 2005, and a brother, Philippe, born in 1956.
Early in life, he wanted to be an actor and attended the same school as François Berléand. He acted with his friend Patrick Timsit in Quasimodo del Paris.
He has a daughter, Coline, born in 1976, from his relationship with actress Catherine Hiegel. He married American singer and actress Jeane Manson in 1984. The couple divorced in 1986. In 1991 he wed French-British Jessica Forde, a photographer and actress, and they had a daughter, actress Joséphine Berry, born in 1992. Since 2009, he has been in a relationship with actress Pascale Louange, with whom he has a daughter, born in 2014.
Accused of incest by Coline, he was challenged on stage by several angry women.
