Peruvian writer, poet, teacher, translator, literary critic, editor and communicator. He was a great promoter of culture in his country. In 1938 he was one of the founders of the Association of Writers, Artists and Intellectuals of Peru (AEA and IP), which was then called the National Association of Writers and Artists (ANEA), which he was secretary, vocal, and finally President from 1950 to 1952. He was director of Art Education and Cultural Extension of the Ministry of Education (1940-1943), in which he initiated the formation of school boards and sponsored the founding of the National School of Performing Arts. He contributed decisively in the opening of the San Luis Gonzaga National University of Ica (1955) and the reopening of the San Cristobal National University of Huamanga of Ayacucho (1957). He promoted the foundation of numerous binational cultural institutions.
He died in Lima on 23 November 1965.
