Biography
Peruvian religious. Archbishop of Huancayo. On 30 May 1961 entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus and was ordained priest on 18 December 1971. In July 1967 he completed philosophical studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Alcalá de Henares (Spain) in 1972 and studied theology at the Pontifical and Civil School of Lima. He also studied at the Private University Education "Marcelino Champagnat". Back to Peru, he was appointed Rector of the Diocesan Seminary "Heart of Christ," Pastor of "Maria Auxiliadora", the Diocesan Advisory Committee on Laity, a member of the Priests' Council and College of Consultors of the Diocese of Callao. He was Assistant Secretary of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, of the Legal Committee and elected its first vice president for the period 2006-2009. He was appointed in 2000, Vicar General of the Bishop of Callao and Vice-President of the Diocesan Pastoral Council. On 21 November 2001, John Paul II appointed him Bishop Vicar Apostolic of Jaén and head of the Diocese of Acufida, taking possession of Apostolic Vicariate of San Francisco Javier, on 6 January 2002. The July 17, 2004, Pope John Paul II named him Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Huancayo, taking up his post at the Cathedral Basilica of Huancayo on 5 September 2004. He received the archbishop's pallium from Pope Benedict XVI, on 20 June 2005.
