American physics student who was identified in the media because of YouTube videos of him, at the age of twelve, offering his ideas about general relativity and the Big Bang. The sensationalistic claims made in the media – that Barnett disproved, was about to disprove, or had expanded Einstein's theory of relativity, that he developed a novel theory of astrophysics at the age of 12, and that he was in line for a Nobel Prize – were false. There has been no scholarly review of Barnett's ideas on these subjects. As of 2016, Barnett was still reported to be planning to disprove the theory of relativity and the Big Bang, in spite of the overwhelming scientific consensus that these theories best predict and explain observational data.
