Biography
American urban planner, architect, educator, and author, sometimes described as "The Father of Modern Philadelphia." During his tenure as the Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission from 1949 to 1970, his visions shaped today's Philadelphia, his native city. In 1967, he wrote the book Design of Cities, still considered an important architectural text.
Bacon was the father of six children including actor Kevin Bacon and musician Michael Bacon. His friends included Buckminster Fuller, Steen Eiler Rasmussen, James Rouse, and Konstantinos Apostolos Doxiadis.
Edmund Bacon died on 14 October 2005, aged 95.
