American artist, her style was abstract expressionism. Her use of light and color and the ovoid shapes and circles that she used call to mind stained glass windows even though she mainly worked in oils and acrylics on canvas, increasingly moving to watercolor. She was instrumental in calling attention to women artists in the 1970s, organizing exhibits and writing articles. In 1950 she moved to New York City and traveled widely during her twenties, exhibting her work in both the US and abroad. She married abstract painter Paul Jenkins but the marriage ended in divorce a few years later.

Baber died of cancer on October 2, 1982 in New York City.

Source Notes

Steinbrecher Collection: Gauquelin Book of American Charts. PT notes that Steinbrecher gives 1929 as the birth year but this must be a typo as Gauquelin definitely lists 1928; 1928 is consistent with other biographical materials as well.
