Spanish aturalis. He was a mining engineer.
He was professor of geology and paleontology of the "School of Mines" of Madrid.
He was versed in geological issues, and participated in various geological disputes, in addition to discussions on taxonomy, nomenclature and identification of living and fossil organisms.
He was a specialist in malacología and diatomología , had huge collections, and published extensive monographs.
He was academician of the Royal Spanish Society of Natural History and its president in 1906.
He died 7 January 1934
