Biography
Kenyan-born German university professor in the field of diversity studies, she completed her PhD at the University of Kiel in 2005 having earned a scholarship from the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
From 2005 to 2006 she worked as a lecturer at Humboldt University in Berlin. She taught at the Faculty of Philosophy in the field of gender studies, where she continued to work as a research assistant in the following two years. Maisha-Maureen Auma has been Professor of Childhood and Difference (Diversity Studies) at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences since 2008.
Her books include Mythen, Masken und Subjekte: kritische Weißseinsforschung in Deutschland (2005, 2009), Rassifizierung und kindliches Machtempfinden: wie schwarze und weiße Kinder rassifizierte Machtdifferenz verhandeln auf der Ebene von Identität (2005) and Rassismus: Eine Definition für die Alltagspraxis (2018).
These titles translate into English as Myths, masks and subjects: critical whiteness research in Germany, Racialization and childlike perception of power: how black and white children negotiate racial power differences on the level of identity and Racism: A Definition for Everyday Practice.
