Norwegian sociologist. He was one of the founders of the Norwegian Institute for Social Research and its periodical, in 1960. During and after World War II he was part of the social set of the philosopher Arne Næss. During the war he was also a member of the clandestine intelligence organisation XU. He was a professor at the University of Oslo 1963-1988.

Aubert died on 19 July 1988 in Oslo, Norway, aged 66.
