Biography

Norwegian composer of German origin. Arnold studied with Aloys Schmitt (piano) and Johann Anton André (music theory). He arrived in Christiania (now Oslo) in 1847 as a political refugee. He was considered an excellent teacher, music theoretician, pianist and experienced composer. His students include the Norwegian composer Halfdan Kjerulf and Johan Svendsen. He wrote among other things, an opera ("Irene," Berlin, 1832), a symphony, a piano concerto and also the music for the 1860 coronation of Charles XV. He died on November 11, 1873 in Christiania.

Noetzel, "Heinrichshofen-Bücher," 1993), p. 18: "Carl Arnold wurde in Neunkirchen getauft Auszug aus dem Taufregister: »Friedrich Carl Gottfried der Louise Catharina Öttinger aus Blaufelden mit einem Musikus Friedrich Gottfried Arnold aus Niedernhall unehelich erzeugtes Söhnlein ist dem 6 May 1794 nachts zwischen 10 und 11 Uhr hier zu Neunkirchen geboren, tags darauf getauft und bey der heiligen Taufhandlung versprochen worden von Maria Catharina Stutzin ledigen Standes aus Neunkirchen..."

Translation: Carl Arnold was baptized in Neunkirchen according to the extract from the register of baptisms, "Friedrich Carl Gottfried was born to Louise Catharina Öttinger from Blaufelden and Friedrich Gottfried Arnold on 6 May 1794 between 10 and 11 o'clock at night here in Neunkirchen, and the next day was baptized ... "

Note: This village called Neunkirchen is now part of the town of Bad Mergentheim.
