Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg Anna Eleonore

Biography

German royalty, the daughter of Louis V, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt and Magdalena von Brandenburg. She married George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg on 14 December 1617 in Darmstadt. One of their sons was Ernest Augustus, Elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1629–1698), father of George I of Great Britain. She died at Herzberg Castle 6 May 1659 at the age of 57.

Sy Scholfield cites "between 6 and 7 o'clock in the evening" from her epitaph quoted in "A general history of the house of Guelph, or royal family of Great Britain, from the earliest period in which the name appears upon record to the accession of His Majesty King George the First to the throne. With an appendix of authentic and original documents" by Sir Andrew Halliday (T. and G. Underwood, 1821), p. 353: "1601, d. 30 Julii, Abends zwischen 6 u. 7 Uhr zu Darmstadt geborn."
