Biography
French university professor of the German language, specializing in the translation of the works of novelist Günter Grass. A graduate in oriental languages, he was an avid traveller, and also translated the works of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Wilhem et Jacob Grimm, Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, Rolf Hochhuth and Hans Albert. He died in Paris on 29 January 2005 at age 90.
