French Hellenist historian, specializing in ancient Greece, but also its relations with the East.
Much of his work focuses on the Delphi site, excavated by the French School of Athens, where he was general secretary from 1941 to 1948 and Director from 1969 to 1981.
He died in Paris on 21 February 2006.
