American musician best known as the drummer for the rock band Primus and also known as "Herb". Alexander played on Primus recordings from Suck on This to Tales from the Punchbowl, before leaving the band in 1996, only to rejoin in 2003 for the EP Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People. Alexander left the band for the second time in 2010, to rejoin again in 2013. Alexander is hailed frequently for his "polyrhythmic" playing.
On 18 July 2014, Alexander suffered a heart attack, and underwent open heart surgery. He rejoined Primus for their "Primus and the Chocolate Factory" tour 3 months later on 22 October 2014.
Sy Scholfield quotes him in Primus, Over the Electric Grapevine: Insight into Primus and the World of Les Claypool by Greg Prato (Akashic Books, 2014), p. 204: "The Vegas nightlife was something I could relate to. My whole life I've always been up till three to four a.m., naturally. There was an energy at night that kept me awake, and everyone always thought I was a vampire. I was born at 8:40 p.m., so that's probably the problem. My clock is way off."
