French actor and singer, said to be the highest paid player at the Palais Royal.
The son of a worker in the silk industry, he first played several years in provincial theatres before coming to Paris. In 1834, he started at the Palais Royal where he would create many roles in his career. He also had the idea of introducing small interludes sung during intermissions.
He died on 13 August 1856 in Paris.
