American tragedy; on February 20, 2003, the band Great White played at The Station, a well-known Warwick, RI nightclub. At about 11 PM, pyrotechnics used by the band ignited the backdrop and the nightclub was consumed in black smoke and flames. In the ensuing conflagration and panic, nearly 100 people died and several more were seriously injured. Following the fire, investigators learned that the nightclub, while it had passed the city's inspection, had several problems: no sprinklers, the foam insulation was highly flammable.

With so many victims and so many fingers pointing at so many deemed guilty (the band members, the nightclub owners, even the city inspectors), this case will go on for years. In the meantime, states are passing stricter laws in order to make public venues safer in the event of fire..
