Otto Abs (as a witness during the Nuremberg Trials, 1946)

German physician who worked as a research assistant in the German Society for Polar Research. He also published numerous essays and monographs on subjects in this field.

In 1933 Abs joined the NSDAP (Nazi Party), taking office as a provisional Kreisleiter. On 9 November 1938 he was promoted to SS-Obersturmführer, becoming head of the security service of the SS (SD).

At the end of the war, Abs was arrested by the US Army. As a result, he was heard as a witness in the Nuremberg trials. On 24 November 1949 Abs was classified by the Denazification Committee in Duisburg in category III and it was ordered that he be retired with the pension of a city doctor (not an alderman).
