Spanish doctor and chess player, particularly prominent in creating chess problems (he was the first Spanish problematicist to receiv e recognition outside Spain). He was president of the Lyceum, the Academy of Sciences and the College of Medicine of Malaga. Municipal councilor in Malaga. The director of the medical journal Clinical Malaga. As a chess player, he composed more than a hundred problems, usually in two three plays; his first works were published in the journal The Universal Museum. He died 30 April 1892 in Malaga.
Castellano quotes the website of the "Association of Researchers of Malaga Archives" (http://asociacion-aiam.es/index.php/documentos/documentos-ilustres-malaguenos) the date given there is November 10, 1842. although the document does not show the year. That document indicated that he was born at "doce de la noche". common use in Spanish is that "doce de la noche" refers to the end of the day, not at the start, so 11 November 1842 at 0:00 is used.
