Biography
Dutch resistance fighter during the Second World War .
Van Aalderen was chief of the signage at the Dutch Railways in Zwolle. He had been a fiercely anti-German man since the occupation and used his work to do many illegal acts. In 1942 he gave drawings of the railway network to the illegal group Hamelink and Riedel so that they could use it for attacks on the railway. A year later he came into contact with Lambertus Neher and set up plans with him to use the railways signaling system to set up a secret telephone network for the resistance.
On 7 August 1944, Van Aalderen was arrested by the Sicherheitsdienst, who had called him the pretext that there would be a meeting to his office. He was imprisoned in Utrecht and later imprisoned in Camp Vught. On 6 September 1944 he was deported to Sachsenhausen where he was employed as a forced laborer. In January 1945 he was transported to Bergen-Belsen where he died of typhoid fever at the end of May. His body was not recovered after the war.
Personal
Van Aalderen married and had for children. His son Wim died at age 5.
After the war Van Aalderen was awarded the Resistance Cross 1940-1945 by Royal Decree of 7 May 1946 for his resistance work.
