Joseph Roumanille

French teacher and poet, his writing is adapted to the country folk of the region.

Roumanille is commonly known in southern France as the father of the Félibrige (literary organization to defend and promote Occitan language and literature, the word Félibrige means pupil or follower). He was the first to conceive the idea of raising his regional language to the dignity of a literary language.
