American pro baseball pitcher who has played for the American League for nine years and the National League for two years as of 1998. He was selected by the N.Y. Yankees in the second round free-agent draft pick, right out of high school, 6/04/1984. Placed on the disabled list in 1988, he rehabilitated in the AAA League until being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays 4/30/1989. Leiter played in the AAA league again off-and-on until being traded to the Florida Marlins organization 12/14/1995. He was honored with the left-handed pitcher on The Sporting News All-Star team in 1996 and has tied the A.L. record for five balks in 1994 and 14 wild-pitches in 1995. On the brighter side he pitched a 11-0 no-hit victory over CO. 5/11/1996. Statistically, Leiter has played the Division Series games in 1997, two Championship Series games, one All-Star game in 1996 and two World Series record games, 1993 and 1997.

At 6'3", 220 lbs., he throws left, bats left and has two brothers; Mark, who pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies and Kurt, who is a minor league pitcher.
