German theologian, an important figure in the "Erlangen School" of the German Neo-Lutheranism movement, and a specialist in theological dogmatics.
In 1850 he received his PhD at the University of Leipzig, where he was a disciple of Gottlieb Christoph von Harless. Afterwards, he worked as a school subrector in Ratzeburg, and in 1853 began teaching classes at the Gymnasium in Altenburg. In 1857 he was appointed professor of church history and systematic theology at the University of Erlangen. He died in Erlangen on February 7, 1894.
Sy Scholfield quotes the article "Frank, Franz Hermann Reinhold von" in "Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, herausgegeben von der Historischen Kommission bei der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Band 48" by R. Seeberg (1904), pp. 683–700, p. 683 : "Frank: Franz Hermann Reinhold . . . wurde geboren am 25. März 1827. Es war der Sonntag Latäre und zugleich der Tag der Verkündigung Mariä, an dem er früh um ½2 Uhr das Licht der Welt erblickte." [Translation: Frank, Franz Hermann Reinhold . . . was born on 25 March 1827. It was the Sunday Latäre and also the day of the Annunciation, when he at ½2 o'clock early (1:30 a.m.) saw the light of day.]
