Biography

German-Danish teacher and politician representing the South Schleswig Voters' Association (SSW) who was a member of the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein from 2009 to 2020. In 2020 he left the state parliament and was replaced by Christian Dirschauer.

Flemming Meyer is the son of former chairman and country parliament member for SSW, Karl Otto Meyer. He was a student at Duborg School in Flensburg until 1971 and trained as a primary school teacher at the Pedagogical College (PH) in Flensburg in 1975. He has taught mathematics, German and social studies in the Danish minority schools in Humtrup, Valsbøl and Hanved.

Since 1966 he has been a member of SSW and from 1991 to 1999 was district chairman for the party in Flensburg. In 2003 he became a member of the party's leadership and in September 2005 he finally became the party's chairman, just as he has represented the party in the Schleswig-Flensburg constituency since 1989; from 2003 also as group chairman.

In 2009 and again in 2012, he was elected to the Landtag in Kiel, where he worked within health, labour, social, agricultural, environmental and energy policy. In August 2020, he left the country parliament, but continued as SSW country chairman until October 2021.
