Swiss writer.

Maria Waser studied history and literature at the universities in Lausanne and Bern. In 1902 she got PhD in Bern with a thesis on the late medieval Swiss history. There followed a period of study in Italy. From 1904 to 1919 Waser was the editor of the cultural magazine "Switzerland" and exerted a significant influence on the Swiss literature from that time, for example through the promotion of young writers such as Albin Zollinger and Robert Walser. In 1905 she married her fellow editors, the archaeologist Otto Waser. From 1913 Maria Waser published their own literary works.

Maria Waser's work consists of novels, short stories, biographies, and poems. In 1938 she was awarded the Literature Prize of the city of Zurich, her second home.

She died 19 January 1939.
