American terrorism act through the postal system, the time that an envelope was opened that had been delivered to Tom Dashle, containing a sample of anthrax.
(NBC had the mailroom closed due to a piece of mail containing anthrax delivered the prior Monday to Tom Brokaw.)
According to the October 13 Washington Post online, the first victim of inhalation anthrax, Florida resident Bob Stevens, was admitted to the hospital in Atlantis, Florida on October 2, 2001 at 2 AM EDT, where he died of anthrax at 4 PM EDT on October 5. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) received its first call about anthrax late on the night of October 3 (October 10, Washington Post online) from the Atlantis hospital.
Also, letters containing anthrax were mailed from Trenton, New Jersey on September 18, one to Tom Brokow, which led to a case of skin anthrax. From
the October 13 Washington Post online:
"NEW YORK, Oct. 12 -- A female aide to NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw "has been infected with a form of anthrax, apparently after opening a letter containing a suspicious powder two weeks ago, the company and the FBI said today."
