Biography

American writer and identical twin, separated at birth and reunited with her twin Paula Bernstein in 2003. The two women wrote a book, "Identical Strangers" published in 2007.

The girls were separated at birth and given to different adoptive families as part of an experiment of nature vs. nurture. In 2003 Schein satisfied her curiosity about her birth parents by contacting the adoption agency. She didn't know she had a twin sister until the adoption agency wrote to her that she was born "the younger of twin girls."

After they met they found that they had similar tastes in movies and books. They discovered that they were dropped from the experiment at an early age and that their birth mother suffered from depression and had spent time in psychiatric care.
