Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin

Biography

French magician, widely considered the father of the modern style of conjuring.

Robert-Houdin felt that every magic program should be arranged so one trick builds upon each other. One surprise should lead to an even bigger surprise. Some of the tricks and illusions Robert-Houdin presented became classics, such as second sight, ethereal suspension, and the marvellous orange tree.

He died of pneumonia in Saint-Gervais-la-Forêt, France on 13 June 1871 at the age of sixty-five.
