German surgeon, one of the first to successfully carry out surgical embolectomy in massive pulmonary embolism. He was the second son of Hans Horst Meyer, a German pharmacologist. In Berlin on November 14, 1933, Arthur shot his wife and then committed suicide. Arthur's wife was Jewish, and claims were made that he was also Jewish.
Sy Scholfield cites birth certificate quoted in "Jahrbuch 1994 der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (Halle/Saale)" [Yearbook 1994, the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina (Halle / Saale)] (1995): "Aus der Geburtsurkunde von A. W. Meyer geht hervor, daß »Arthur Woldemar Meyer« am 16. März 1885 »vormittags um zweieinhalb Uhr« in der Nikolaistr. 13 zu Wiesbaden geboren wurde."
Translation: the birth certificate of A. W. Meyer shows that "Arthur Woldemar Meyer" was born in Wiesbaden on March 16, 1885 "at two-thirty in the morning."
