American sports announcer; son of longtime Boston Globe writer and TV sportscaster, Will McDonough, Sean McDonough has established his own reputation as respected sports announcer. For 15 years he has been the television voice of the Boston Red Sox. In addition, in August 2000 he joined ABC Sports as a college football play-by-play announcer after spending 10 years with CBS Sports, serving in a similar role from 1997 through 1999. From 1996-1999 he worked CBS regional telecasts covering a variety of pro and college sports. From 1990 to 1996, he worked at ESPN, announcing for college and professional sports teams, and he has announced several Olympic games for CBS in 1992, 1994, and 1998. He began his career in 1985 when he joined radio station WSBK as the studio host for coverage of the Boston Bruins hockey team after graduating cum laude from Syracuse University in 1984. Following his father’s death in January 2003, he used the senior McDonough’s column to write a moving eulogy to his father and thank-you to the thousands of his dad’s friends, readers and listeners for their support and love.
